Tom Darrah

Tom is the Director of the Global Water Institute.

Under his leadership, the Global Water Institute works to integrate capabilities at Ohio State and abroad to solve complex water-related problems associated with water shortages, quality, and health. Tom is committed to building strategic partnerships that involve partnerships with academia, non-profits, industry, and governmental agencies to develop and share ideas across stakeholders and enhance the Institute’s research and outreach activities. The Institute is also working on novel approaches and technologies to identify new sources of water and opportunities for reuse, as well as the beneficial treatment of “dirty” water.

Tom is a faculty member in the School of Earth Sciences within the College of Arts and Sciences. He is an internationally-recognized scholar with broad research interests in issues of water and human health, water quality, critical energy resources, and noble-gas geochemistry. His active research program is funded by the National Science Foundation, National Institute of Health, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, the Department of Energy, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, as well as various international government, industry, and foundational sponsors.
