In southern Greece’s Argolida region, aging infrastructure and climate-induced droughts have led to severe water shortages and quality issues. Nearly half of the region’s drinking water is lost due to leaks, and many residents rely on bottled water as tap water often becomes contaminated and brackish. As the EU campaigns to address water scarcity and increase conservation efforts, Greece faces significant challenges, including decades of underinvestment and the need to overhaul its crumbling pipeline network.

The cost of necessary upgrades is immense, but experts agree that improving the infrastructure is a critical step to ensuring sustainable water access in one of Europe’s most drought-prone regions.
