A new collaboration by researchers at Ohio State, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Biosortia Pharmaceuticals will explore the potential for cancer treatments in compounds harvested from harmful algal blooms such as those that appear on Lake Erie every summer. Early results show promise for applications to pediatric cancer (neuroblastoma), liver cancer (Hepatitis C virus) and an alternative approach to combat tumor growth by stimulating a patient’s immune responses (immuno-oncology).
