Last month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Environment Canada announced the goal for stamping out harmful algal blooms in Lake Erie: reduce the phosphorus flowing into the Lake by 40% compared to 2008 levels. GWI Senior Faculty Lead Jay Martin is a member of a team of modelers that took that goal to heart. The team, led by the University of Michigan and including researchers from Ohio State, Heidelberg University, Texas A & M, and Limnotech, combined watershed models to be able run different land and water management scenarios that could get Lake Erie to its goal. They published their report this week.
